http://collections.aucklandmuseum.com/ontology/core/researcherComments Chinese skirt - probably;y a wedding skirt- in 2 parts (.1 and .2) with embroidered panels at front and back. Waist has 3 button loops and buttons to join the 2 parts. main body of skirt is in red self patterned silk, with the side parts finely pleated., and held in place with fine hand stitches.These pleats have couched gold work designs which have been worked prior to pleating. The embroidered front panel shows 2 ducks, prunis and a circular motif with (white hoiho) or pheasant. Blue/cream bands outside of the embroidery have an intricate type of(smocking). The lining of the panels are plain pink silk.
