http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/description The Museum newsletter was instigated by Museum Director Stuart Park in 1980 and continued by subsequent directors until it ceased in 2007. While earlier newsletters published intermittently under Director Gilbert Archey had a strong education services focus (Museum Newsletters 1-7 - 1952-1965. MUS-2010-13), Stuart Park broadened the audience and the scope to inform and educate staff and volunteers as well as Institute and Museum members and visitors. During this time, it went through several title changes beginning with the Auckland Museum News (Numbers 1-9), to Auckland War Memorial Museum News (Numbers 10-63), and then finally MQ Museum Quarterly (Issues 64-113). The format also evolved from a black and white 4-page mailed pamphlet to a fully realised 50-page colour magazine. During Rodney Wilson’s time the Newsletter became a professionally edited magazine which was sold at the shop and sent free to Institute and Museum members. The content of the newsletters includes Auckland Institute and Museum news; Museum history; recent accessions; staff comings and goings; staff achievements and research; museum publications; exhibitions and events for all ages; new Galleries and Gallery refurbishments; war memorial duties and commemorations; refurbishment and restoration of the building; noteworthy guests; behind the scenes work; and Museum collaboration with the many communities and iwi of New Zealand.
