http://collections.aucklandmuseum.com/ontology/core/fieldCollectionNotes Growing wild in a couple of locations on roadside and appear to have come from nearby farmers' gardens. Leaves >2m across. They are a major threat, and are growing not only in wet seepage sites (where they could take off and threaten the large areas of parataniwha clad gorge and stream slopes) and drains, but also on road cuttings together with pioneer species normally associated with well drained sites. It looks like they take 2 or 3 years to reach maturity. The inflorescence was: 630mm long x 110mm across (incl. the stalk 110mm long x 40mm across); the individual arms of the spike were c.48mm long x 12mm across. Specimen: side spikes from middle if inflorescence and the terminal tip
