Abundant. Submerged in crystal clear, moderately fast-flowing, very cold water. Saxicolous on rhyolite and ignimbrite rocks. Associated with Fissidens waiensis and sparse specimens of F. berteroi. Thallus when fresh appearing greenish brown, very, very mucilaginous, when washed thallus young growth and base distinctly carmine-pink. Forming patches up to 10 x 8 cm.
