Akau tafolo unu mena. A wooden stick used in domestic chores such as beating items of clothing in the household chore of hand-washing garments. Carved from solid kieto (ebony wood), the akau is long and cylindrical in shape, wider and rounded at one end. A metal nail at the base of the akau has a short loop of natural fire attached to it, possibly for suspension of the implement when not in use.
