http://collections.aucklandmuseum.com/ontology/core/researcherComments Figure, probably a standard bearer, of friable whitish earthenware. The features are definitely not Chinese and the dress and armour appear to be of the Scythian type. The decoration on the helmet shows traces of having been covered with leaf-gold. In China in very early times, Scythians, especially archers, were employed as mercenaries. The whole figure was originally covered with a vitreous lead glaze which has almost completely perished. T'ang dynasty.
