http://erlangen-crm.org/current/P3_has_note Brain Adam has been obsessed with designing and making eyewear. Frequently his work has some witty, near surreal reference. His (usually) glass-less eyewear pieces become non-functional body adornment. In this work, the fern ‘shades’ make a cool and clever dress statement evoked from the effective use of the sunglasses motif around a decorative conceit. Or, more simply, they give the wearer the same sensation as looking through native bush.

http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/description eye-glasses and stand; the glasses consisting of two fern fronds made by the lost wax process? cast in silver forming the shades and a frame with riveted moveable joints and the ends of the arms having small scrolled twists accompanied by a simple silver stand for their display Brain Adam is a member of the Auckland-based Fingers jewellery collective and has been with the group virtually since its inception around 1974. Adam currently lives and teaches in Auckland. Adam’s work is typical of much recent New Zealand jewellery or jewellery based construction. As a maker based in jewellery, Adam has been obsessed with spectacles. Frequently his work has some witty near surreal reference. The crafting of his (usually) glass-less eyewear pieces become non-functional body adornment. In this work, the fern ‘shades’ make a cool and clever dress statement evoked from the effective use of the sunglasses motif around a decorative conceit. Or, more simply, to give the wearer the same sensation as looking through native bush.
