Shell currency. This long strand of te moni (shell currency) consists of small pieces of white nouo (conus shells) and dark brown nana (coconut shells) ground into small discs drilled at their centre and strung in an alternating monochrome pattern on a length of medium brown cord of te kora (coconut sennit). This te moni was previously tied off to form a te mwae (neck ornament) however this has broken. The pieces of nouo and nana are an average of 6.5mm in diameter. Te mwae teimoone
