The donor, Mr David Craig Cresser, was the Hon. Secretary of the Samoa Ex-Service Men's Association during the 1920s. He was a member of the Samoa Advance Party and later served with the Auckland Infantry Battalion embarking with the 5th Reinforcements on 13th June 1915. 'A freehand painted design with the so-called "vane swastika" effect which is actually a very ancient widespread pattern used also by the Toradja people of Indonesia.'
