It burst in a sandbag on which Sapper Roy Finlayson Ellis, New Zealand Signal Corps, NZE, was sitting at the side of the NZ Div.HQ signal office and one to four feet away from the OC NZ Division Sigs Capt. HM Edwards and 12 other ranks. No-one was injured. "This Turk gun caused many casualties in Anzac Cove the first two days. It was pushed in and out of a cave. A Navy shell blew it up." Roy Ellis of Auckland joined up as a Lance Corporal with the NZ Field Engineers and left New Zealand with the Main Body on 16th October 1914.
