Around the country meetings were called, committees were formed and special canvassers appointed. But the designated appeal day didn't suit everyone. Down in Timaru it was noted in the Timaru Herald (9 February 1918) that while Fridays are days that suit the cities, but not so the towns, and it was decided to ask leave to alter the date to Saturday 16th March.
