Predicate Object 1989.45 Collection of Auckland War Memorial Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, N2848 2016-03-21T00:00:00.000Z 1 2019-10-25T03:38:44.970Z 4D 55 Victory Medal , WW1 Awarded to 54476 Rifleman Herbert Davison, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 1NZEF Herbert Davison enlisted with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade in 1917, leaving New Zealand on 14 July. Between October 1817 and June 1918 he spent most of his time in hospitals in the UK with bronchial catarrh, followed by measles, bronchitis and influenza. Not until 4th August 1918 was it recorded that he was “proceeding overseas”. He joined his Battalion on 10th August and was captured at Bapaume on 31st August 1918. Davison was initially reported wounded and missing, believed to be a prisoner of war. In November 1918 this was confirmed in a postcard. He spent approximately six weeks as a prisoner of war and was repatriated on 7 December 1918. On 9th December, back in London, he was reported as being “somewhat thin but is otherwise in good health” and not seen to be requiring further medical attention.
