Fitz George Granstrom, Wellington Mounted Rifles, NZEF, WW1 Trooper Fitz Granstrom of Waimai, Raglan, a Quarryman employed by the Raglan County Council, enlisted in the Auckland district and embarked with the Wellington Mounted Rifles leaving New Zealand on 14 August 1915 with the 6th Reinforcements, Wellington Mounted Rifles. His mother, Mrs J Granstrom of Gothenberg, Sweden, was listed as his next-of-kin. His service included a brief period on Mudros and Lemnos, and the remaining time he served in the Egyptian Theatre and with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. He received instruction as an Armourer, and was attached to the NZ Machine Gun Squadron. He served overseas for 4 years 39 days, and his final rank and unit recorded on his Discharge Certificate was as Armourer Sergeant with the NZ Army Ordnance Corps. Fritz Granstrom died in New Zealand in 1952, aged 67 years. Victory Medal 1914-19, WW1 Awarded to 11/1557 Arm/Sjt.
