He embarked from NZ on 14/2/1915; during service on Gallipoli became ill and admitted to Hospital ship at Anzac Cove on 6 June 1915 & then to 1st Australian Gen. Hospital, Cairo on 12 June 1915. After a short time in convalescent camp he was invalided back to NZ as permanently unfit and discharged on 25 September 1915 on medical grounds. Died at Te Aroha on 6 October 1917.
