Predicate Object Collection of Auckland War Memorial Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, N1597 2016-03-21T00:00:00.000Z 1 2019-10-25T03:39:11.800Z 2C 55 Victory Medal, 1914-19, WW1 Awarded to 18841 Pte Edwin North, Auckland Infantry Battalion, NZEF Edwin North, born in Lancaster, England, was a married man living at Kingsland Ave., Auckland at the time of his enlistment on 6th March 1916. He embarked with the 15th Reinforcements, A Company, Auckland Infantry Regiment on 25 July 1916 arriving in England on 3rd October. Just over a fortnight later he left for France and joined the 2nd Battalion Auckland Regiment in the Field on 5th November. He suffered a minor injury the following year and was admitted to No 2 Field Ambulance. After being laid up for a fortnight Private North rejoined his unit. Four months later he was in action at Messines, and lost his life on 9th June 1917. His name is recorded at themessines Ridge (New Zealand) Memorial.
