Stanley Blackburn was born on 26 March 1889 at Hackney in London. But at the time of his enlistment he was working as a farmer employed by Mr Bowron of Parua Bay, Whangarei, and his parents were living on Guernsey. Stanley enlisted on 9th December 1914 and embarked on 17th April 1914. He arrived in Gallipoli on 23rd August and was killed in action 5 days later on 28th August duriong the action at Hill 60. On the 28th August he was reported as wounded and missing.. His death was subject to a Board of Enquiry held at Zeitoun on 14th January 1916, and the finding was that he was "now believed to be dead." His death is commemorated at the Hill 60 Cemetery, Special Memorial 8.
