It has been ground from te nouo (cone shell; conus). The surface of the shell pendant has been filed into a convex area. Fine ridges that circle towards the centre are indicative of the spires lines of growth. A series of chevron patterns in white and brown segments follow the spire towards a faint grey centre. The reverse of the pendant concaves through a series of circular furrows that define the spires interior. The surface is grey in colour. The rim of the pendant is of the same surface colour and texture. Te nikabono
