He saw service in Egypt, including at Suez, then France where he was wounded at Flers on 1 October 1916. Albert spent much of the next year in and out of hospital before finally being classified unfit in November 1917 and embarking for home in early 1918. He married Amy Hansen (nee Garner) in 1919. 1914-15 Star awarded to 24/966 Rifleman Albert Percy Barnett, NZRB, NZEF. A bronze four pointed star with crown at top; across the face are two crossed swords; suspension ring; ribbon missing obverse: at centre on a scroll is date 1914-15 surrounded by an oak wreath; superscribed below, monogram initials GV reverse: flat and plain; stamped with recipient’s details ribbon: watered ribbon of red merging into white which merges into blue. Ribbon folded over on acquisition and secured with a large safety pin. named on reverse: 24/966 / RFLMN A.P. BARNETT / N.Z.E.F. medal, campaign
