http://collections.aucklandmuseum.com/ontology/core/researcherComments A cord of tightly wrapped and plaited pandanus and hibiscus bast is decorated with long curling feathers of the frigate bird. As well as body ornaments, many of the baskets, belts and mats made by the craftswomen of Nauru were decorated with these black curling frigate bird feathers, reflecting the great regard for this bird in Nauruan culture, and serving almost as a badge of Nauru handicraft. (Pacific Jewelry and Adornment by Roger Neich and Pandora Fulimalo Pereira, 2004)
