http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/creator Campbell, John Logan, 1817-1912
http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/description Brown and Campbell letter book containing letters to William Brown, F. Dillian Bell, J.L. Campbell (38) - while Campbell was overseas, William Gibson, and Robert Mitchell, Union Bank of Australia, March 1856 - July 1864. Letters up to 1859 are signed by J.I. Montefiore, Attorney. From 1860 onwards, signed by John Logan Campbell. Record of the conduct of the firm's business during Campbell's absence. Also deals with Manukau Company affairs. Differs from letter book 120 in that the letters are fuller and more descriptive, meaning they do not record mere transactions. The volume is not complete with letter imprints being on pages 1 - 434 of a possible 790 pages. [Note: there are several letters written entered in the back of the book]. During this time business was flourishing. Brown and Campbell leave New Zealand indefinitely and entrust the business to Montefiore (with Hastings Aitkens keeping an eye on the business). Montefiore does not follow directions and so Campbell returns from Europe in 1859 to sort things out.
