http://erlangen-crm.org/current/P3_has_note John Logan Campbell met William Brown in 1839 during the voyage to Australia. They met again a few months later in New Zealand, forming a business partnership and a lasting friendship. After developing a successful business in Auckland, the partners installed a manager and returned to the northern hemisphere in 1856. With the decline of the business, John Logan Campbell returned to New Zealand in 1871 and bought out Brown's shares in 1873. While the business relationship ended, the friendship continued. Brown died in London on 19 January 1898, a year after his final letter to Campbell (1 January 1897).

http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/description Letter book (no index),12 October 1885 - 14 October 1886, containing letters to William Brown from 'Kilbryde', mainly relating to business affairs and financial difficulties. They cover the period when Campbell is recovering from liquidity constraints and realising his wealth. This collection of letters has not been transcribed. Consequently, prospective readers should refer to the originals. Brown's letters, written on poor quality paper, are brittle and shattering. They illustrate Campbell's on-going relationship with this special lifelong friend - someone whom Campbell both trusts and respects. Refers briefly to domestic affairs.
