Te Ara-o-Hinehopu's track runs between Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotoehu, in the Bay of Plenty. Te Ara-o-Hinehopu, Hinehopu�s path is also known as Hongi's track. Hinehopu is a famous Te Arawa Chieftainess who used the pathway to move between the two homes she had by each lake in the 1700s. The track is now known as Hongi's Track named after Ngapuhi leader Hongi Hika who used the track to launch surprise attacks on Te Arawa who sought refuge on Mokoia Island. Possibly nitrate
