Shirriff's were the instigators of the very popular Kiwi brand 'Lushus' which made desserts. The jelly crystals with their 'flavour bud' were one of the most successful of all time, around for a number of decades and standing over dozens of other brands that flooded the market. They offloaded Lushus to N.W. Stevens in 1939. Stevens had the license to produce a number of brands which are names you'd recognise like Kiwi polish, as well as their own lines under the 'New Century' brand. Stevens in themselves had a pretty interesting history in Auckland Central. Lushus remained popular in Canada under it's own name, however in Australia it became 'Sumshus' under Foster Clark. Looking in my database Shirriff's were marketing food colouring in Aotearoa in the 1930s. From what I've seen of the first couple of things, also likely 1930s-1940s, so you may end up reassessing the era span.
